Esri, a global geographic information system (GIS) leader that develops and delivers powerful mapping and spatial analysis technologies, awarded the Blue Map 2018 Application of the Year Award!

The Blue Map app is designed to be the one-stop shop of environmental data for users who live in China or frequently visit China – and it is now available in English for the first time! First, it provides the public with comprehensive and authoritative information about air and water quality and industrial emissions, and visualizes this data via dynamic maps, to help inform users in making everyday decisions. Second, the app serves as a channel for public participation, facilitating citizens to report pollution and polluters and giving consumers the data they need to implement green consumption.

The app’s innovative features include the following:
1) Authoritative and comprehensive environmental data and dynamic maps:
a. Air quality & forecasts
Data on six air quality indicators from over 2000 air quality monitoring stations in China and over 5000 additional monitoring stations in Asia, Europe, the U.S. and worldwide
Air quality rankings, and statistics by the hour, day, month and year for air pollution and smog monitoring
Dynamic air quality data visualization maps, including past three-day air quality trends for China and global monitoring data
Warnings for heavy smog alerts in China to help users keep an eye on when stretches of heavy smog might hit
b. Water quality
Data from over 8000 surface water quality monitoring stations across China
c. Pollution source emissions
Real-time emissions data for over 9000 key air emissions and wastewater pollution sources, including detailed daily average value analysis
d. Weather & forecasts
Authoritative worldwide real-time weather data and forecasts from meteorological authorities; detailed weather forecasts all the way down to the district and county level in China
2) Interactive channels for improving environmental quality and green consumption:
a. “Micro-reporting” mechanism to expose polluters
If you notice factory emissions are out of compliance, then you can share them to Weibo or your WeChat moments, and tag in the official Weibo accounts of local environmental protection authorities to bring issues to their attention
“Foul & filthy” rivers module
Polluted urban waters can be reported directly to the platform of official authorities via the Blue Map app
b. “Green choice” consumer action platform
Environmental performance rankings for popular brands and hot products. “Like” or “dislike” your favorite brands and laggard brands, and then share your findings with your friends on WeChat and Weibo to help others consume green, too!
c. Interactive sharing wall
Sharing wall to post pictures of blue sky days, pollution, smog and other related issues to encourage environmental improvement and expose pollution!

Protect your family and your children, protect our blue skies and clear waters – the Blue Map 4.0 awaits!
